Continuing the success story of the X-802, Saturday saw Lorenzo take another pole position after a mighty lap confirmed him the fastest during qualifying. Race day dawned hot and it remainded so, in fact it became even hotter, especially the last corner of the last lap as the duelling Fiat Yamaha’s battled each other for supremacy with Lorenzo losing out by thousandths of a second to his team mate, Valentino Rossi. Simply breath taking and, as Lorenzo was quoted aftewards, “...wait until the next race..!” Casey, despite poor health, managed to hold third in the race, a brave performance. Melandri finished fourteenth after encountering problems with his Hayate. Three riders now lead the championship, level on points; our Lorenzo and Stoner plus Rossi, the season starts again! Melandri is currently seventh. Praise also for Pasini and his good pace which produced a fine fourth place in the 250cc Grand Prix. Next race, June 27th, Assen, Netherlands.
